Joe Luis Rivera

March 22, 1963 ~ August 14, 2020 (age 57)

Obituary

Joe Rivera, 57, of Brazoria, passed away on August 14, 2020 in League City. He was born on March 22, 1963 in La Feria, Texas, the son of late Felipe and Anita Rivera. He was the 10th of 13 siblings.

Joe graduated from Angleton High School in 1981. Shortly after he began his 35-year career at Dow Chemical where his bright smile and laughter caught the eye of the love of his life, Anna. They married on August 2, 1987. After retirement, Joe’s love of the outdoors led him to The Springs where he spent countless hours beautifying the event venues.
His life changed forever when he became the most amazing father to his “baby girls”, Rani and Mikayla. Joe was the salt-of-the-earth; a kindhearted, loyal, hardworking individual. Some of his favorite pastimes, which all involved his family, were gardening, fishing, and maintaining an immaculate lawn. He was a master craftsman. He took the most mundane items and turned them into masterpieces. His imagination, rivaled only by Walt Disney, gave skill to complete the visions or dreams of his family. It was always a wonder to behold when he made something for you.

Above all else, his most treasured role began on February 12, 2020 when he became “Poppy” to his twin grandbabies, Blane and Lana. He always made sure to have on one of his favorite grandpa shirts when they were around.

Joe is survived by his wife of 33 years, Anna; daughters, Rayna and husband, Josh Roach, and Mikayla Joe Rivera and Pepe (the granddog); siblings, Eulogio Rivera (Mina), Juan Rivera (Norma), Eduardo Rivera (Rosario), Guadalupe Hoelscher (David), Maria Elena Mireles (Joe), Rosemary Grubbs (Tracy), Dolores Henderson (Tommy), Sally Howell (Willie), Armando Rivera, and Javier Rivera (Heather); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Dora Brady; brother, Arturo Rivera; and sister, Beatriz Rivera.
A private funeral mass will be held for family. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Friday, August 21, 2020 at Davis Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The family is concerned about everyone’s health and safety, therefore everyone is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers, brothers-in-law, Josh Roach, Ron Reed, Mike Cole, Lester Livanec, Gary Williams, and Wes James.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

“He was our rock and although life will never be the same without him, he taught us to love and be strong. We will cherish the memories forever and continue to make him proud.”
